8th SESAME Users' Meeting, Petra-Jordan, 19-21

The
8th
SESAME Users' Meeting will be held in Petra
,
Jordan
and will cover various disciplines of applied synchrotron radiation research
interests of the SESAME users' community. The meeting will bring together
scientists from the region and world experts in the various fields of
synchrotrons Applications, and will provide a platform for information exchange
and discussions of ongoing collaborative efforts within the community. The
meeting will also offer the opportunity to develop new collaborative research
projects.
The program will cover topics in:

Atomic,
molecular, and chemical physics.

Structural
biology, drug design, and medical applications.
-
Materials
science, electronic structure and nanotechnology.
-
Archaeology
and cultural heritage.
-
SESAME
machine and phase I beamlines development.

6th SESAME User Meeting November 17-19, 2007 Amman, Jordan
The 6th SESAME Users' Meeting will be held in Amman, Jordan and
will reflect the broad spectrum of synchrotron-based research interests of the
SESAME users' community. The meeting will bring together scientists from the
region and world experts in the various fields relevant to phase I beamlines,
and will provide a platform for information exchange and discussions of ongoing
collaborative efforts within the community. The meeting will also offer the
opportunity to develop new collaborative research projects. The scientific
program of the meeting will be released in the 2nd announcement and will
include plenary, invited, and contributed talks as well as a poster session.
The program will cove topics in:

Atomic, molecular, and chemical physics.

Biology, drug design, and medical applications.

Materials science and nanotechnology.
-
Archaeology and cultural heritage.
-
SESAME machine and phase I beamlines development.
A SESAME site tour is also planned for the morning of the second day.

Database of Potential SESAME Users
We are constructing a database of potential users
of SESAME. We would like to include scientists who might eventually become
users, particularly, but not necessarily, those with connections to countries
in the Middle East, Mediterranean basin region. Previous experience with
synchrotron radiation is not required. We seek also those whose present or
potential future scientific interests would benefit from the use of an intense,
broad spectral range light source such as SESAME. We hope you will take the
time to fill out the form and also encourage your colleagues to do the same.
We know from information supplied by members of the SESAME Scientific Committee
at the August 1999 meeting in Berlin, and from other sources, that there are
several hundred scientists in the Middle East that are now engaged in research
activities that would benefit from a synchrotron radiation source. Of these,
about 150 have already used synchrotron radiation. In addition there are
several hundred citizens of Middle East countries who live outside the Middle
East and are working with VUV and X-rays. Many of these are users of
synchrotron radiation facilities in Europe, the US and elsewhere.
Some of them would undoubtedly become users of SESAME. Starting in September
1999 we have begun to compile a database of potential users of SESAME using
this form and from other sources. Below we present the breakdown by citizenship
of those in the database. We expect that this database will grow substantially
as the project becomes better known. The database will be used to assist in
planning the scientific program and for communication with potential users.
