Historical Highlights

A synchrotron light source in the Middle East is something people aspired for as far back as the 1980s. A synchrotron light source in the Middle East that would build scientific and cultural bridges between diverse societies, and contribute to a culture of peace through international cooperation in science, is more than even the most optimistic had dared to hope for. Yet SESAME is all of this!

SESAME is the result of hard work and determination on the part of Governments in the Middle East and neighbouring countries, but also that of Governments of the Observer countries of the Centre and scientists at large. It is also the result of goodwill and generosity on the part of international organizations and synchrotron radiation sources world-wide.

A tour of the collection of highlights in the 'life' of SESAME reflects the global effort that makes SESAME what it is.
