The Secretariat of SESAME is headed by a Director who is assisted by a Directorate.

The Staff members of SESAME are generally nationals of the Members and Observers of the Centre unless a person equally well qualified cannot be recruited from there.

SESAME has a medium-sized technical team, a nascent scientific team and a small administrative group. All three teams are to increase in size to reach a total of 120 staff members at the time of start-up of the laboratory.
