Today, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) announced its 2019 Award for Science Diplomacy. It goes to Herwig Schopper and Christopher Llewellyn Smith (both former Presidents of the SESAME Council and Professor Emeritus at Hamburg University and Professor at Oxford University respectively), Eliezer Rabinovici (Professor at Hebrew University and former Vice President of the SESAME Council), Zehra Sayers (Professor at Sabanci University, former Chair of SESAME’s Scientific Advisory Committee, and future SESAME user) and Khaled Toukan (Director of SESAME) who have played very important roles in the establishment of SESAME.

This Award underlines the important role of SESAME for the region and is a recognition for our institute as a whole, and for everybody involved, from the SESAME staff to all people outside the laboratory who helped to bring a dream to reality.
