Three Cameroonian scientists from the University of Douala who were awarded a one-month fellowship from the technical cooperation programme of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were placed in Jordan for their training. The three fellows: Daniel Bongue,Huguette Lesly Djeuachi Tchuitcheu and Justin Djopnang are carrying out research in Food Safety
All three fellows took up their fellowship on 24 March, and followed a two-week programme at SESAME during which they were introduced to the different synchrotron radiation techniques applicable in the case of the Centre’s first operational beamlines (XAFS/XRF) and (IR) and the applications both beamlines made possible. They were also exposed to the technical design and operation of the beamlines. This included tutorials on the preparation of samples, data collection and analysis. The fellows were, in particular, given the opportunity to test the applicability of the experimental methods available at SESAME on fish samples. Their stay at SESAME was preceded by a two-week programme at the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC).
