Advertisement for Training of Beamline
Scientists
SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental
Science and Applications in the Middle East) an international synchrotron
radiation source based in Jordan is calling for applications from physicists,
chemists, biologists, and engineers from the SESAME Members to the SESAME
beamline training program. The purpose is to foster the formation of experts on
the design, construction and maintenance of synchrotron beamlines. The
following 6 beamlines are planned to be set up:
- Protein crystallography,
- Small Angle-resolved X-ray Scattering (SAXS) /Wide Angle-resolved X-ray Scattering (WAXS)
- Photo-emission and -absorption spectroscopy,
- X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS),
- Infrared spectromicroscopy,
- Powder diffraction
Several synchrotron laboratories are expected to be able to host fellows under this program. The trainees will join the teams of laboratories to work together on those technical issues that will create the suitable expertise needed to set up the beamlines. The fellowship is compatible with enrolment to a Ph.D. program. It is foreseen to assign 2 fellowships for each beamline 1 year each, pending availability of funds and of the hosting labs.
Applicants are invited to send a CV and an indication of field of interest and arrange for two letters of reference to be sent separately to the same address.
Applications should be sent by e-mail to SESAME c/o the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, P.O.B. 586, Strada Costiera 11, I-34100 Trieste, Italy, Fax: 0039 040 2240410. The e-mail address is sesame@ictp.trieste.it. The deadline for submitting applications is November 15th 2004.
