TRAINING COURSE ON SYNCHROTRON TECHNIQUES FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE

 

ORGANIZERS: SESAME and the Government of Jordan in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

PURPOSE: The training course as part of the SESAME School for Cultural Heritage is aimed to help build and expand a SESAME based end-users community through various applications of synchrotron and related techniques.

PARTICIPATION: The training course under the SESAME School for Cultural Heritage is open for a maximum of 3 participants from the SESAME members.

ANCIENT MATERIALS TRAINING SCHOOL

Ancient materials Training school

The Cyprus Institute (Nicosia), from 14 to 18 May 2018

The school is organised by the IPANEMA-CNRS institute (which is a European Research Platform on Ancient Materials), with the support of The Cyprus Institute, in the context of the European project Open Sesame, will be to train young researchers from the Middle East in the techniques of synchrotron spectroscopy and imaging to study cultural heritage materials.

Open SESAME Training School on Synchrotron IR Spectroscopy and Imaging for Life-Sciences Applications

The school covers a comprehensive training in this subject with theoretical classes and hands-on sessions.The school will take place in AMMAN, 14-19 APRIL 2018, and is open to up to 20 students (to be funded by OPEN SESAME project) from SESAME Members (Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority and Turkey).

Applicants are expected to be young students, typically Master and possibly PhD in physics, chemistry or biology, and to have strong motivation willing to become future users of the SESAME IR beamline.

THIRD SESAME-LINKSCEEM SUMMER SCHOOL

The LinkSCEEM-2 FP7 project is organising a 3-day school on High Performance Computing (HPC) and its application on the Synchrotron Radiation fields, during September 8-10, 2013 at SESAME (www.sesame.org.jo), Jordan. The HPC School is part of the LinkSCEEM-2 project training activities aiming to motivate the scientists in the Middle-East region with topics related to Synchrotron Radiation (SR) and High Performance Computing (HPC) and the applications of these topics in their respective field of research.

SOLEIL - SESAME PHD FELLOWSHIPS FOR 2013

Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in Middle-East (SESAME) is a third generation light source that is under construction in Jordan. It is expected that in 2015 electron storage ring with 2.5 GeV beam energy and four day-one beamlines namely:

  1. X-ray Fluorescence/ X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XRF/XAFS),
  2. Infrared (IR) Spectro-microscopy,
  3. Protein Crystallography (PX),
  4. Powder Diffraction (PD).

 will become operational.

JOINT SESAME-LINKSCEEM SUMMER SCHOOL

Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of the Cyprus Institute (CyI) are  organizing jointly the first Joint Summer School within the LinkSCEEM-2 project, that will be held at SESAME in Amman - Jordan. The school aims to enhance the knowledge of current HPC users, and to engage new user communities in the use of HPC infrastructure in synchrotron related research.
