ESC SESAME

A special edition of the INFN Efficient Scientific Computing International School on "Architectures, tools and methodologies for developing efficient large scale scientific computing applications" (ESC@SESAME) will be held at the Sergio Fubini Guest House of the SESAME synchrotron-light facility in Allan (Jordan) from May 27 to June 2, 2023.

This is the first ESC school to be held in the Middle East. It principally targets PhD students, post-docs and young researchers from the region who are actively involved with the development of scientific applications and systems. The school is co-organized in collaboration with the Scientific Computing & Systems Communications and the Data Collection and Analysis teams at SESAME.

Familiarity and experience with basic concepts of modern OO languages, in particular with C++ language, are desirable prerequisites to attend the school. The program of this special edition is structured along two main tracks:

The basics of efficient programming:

  • Modern processor architecture
  • Efficient floating-point computation
  • Tools and methodologies for improved performance
  • Efficient exploitation of modern C++
  • Managing memory usage

Parallel programming for scientific applications:

  • Heterogeneous architectures
  • Threading Building Blocks programming
  • Effective vectorization
  • GP-GPU programming with CUDA
  • Cluster computing with MPI

Lectures will be interspersed with tutorial and practical sessions, providing opportunities for direct applications of optimization tools and technologies as well as for interactions among students, lecturers and tutors.

The scientific programme of ESC@SESAME and how to apply to participate in the school are available on the school web site:  https://indico.sesame.org.jo/e/ESC-SESAME

The deadline for application is March 15, 2023
