Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in Middle-East (SESAME) is a third generation light source that is under construction in Jordan. It is expected that in 2015 electron storage ring with 2.5 GeV beam energy and four day-one beamlines namely:

  1. X-ray Fluorescence/ X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XRF/XAFS),
  2. Infrared (IR) Spectro-microscopy,
  3. Protein Crystallography (PX),
  4. Powder Diffraction (PD).

 will become operational.

SESAME and the French light source SOLEIL based in Paris, France under a joint collaboration program offering two PhD fellowships. We are seeking candidates from SESAME members (Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority and Turkey) who are ready and eligible to enroll in PhD program in France.

Selected candidates will work on SOLEIL beamlines, Proxima used for Protein Crystallography (PX) and CRISTAL beamline used for material science and powder diffraction.

Two candidates will commence their PhD in September 2013 and it is expected that immediately after completing their PhD candidates will join SESAME team for beamlines and will work in SESAME on PX and PD beamlines. Applicants who have already completed their Master's degree preferably in Physics can apply for these PhD fellowships. The candidates are required to submit the following supporting documents:

  1. CV plus two photographs,
  2. At least two letters of recommendations,
  3. Copy of their final degree

A committee will review all the applications, no incomplete application will be considered. After review a panel of scientists will interview short-listed candidates and the final decision will be taken.

The deadline to apply for fellowship is January 31, 2013. Please send your application and all above requested documents to the email address PhD.Fellowships@sesame.org.jo.
