SESAME call for proposals

30 July, 2023

We are glad to announce that SESAME is now accepting proposals for the user period starting from January 01st, to June 30th 2024.

What is new in this call?

SESAME is increasing the number of available beamlines from 3 to 5:

ID10 - BEATS: The new Beamline for Tomography at SESAME is OPEN to the user’s proposals.
BEATS operates an X-ray radiography and tomography station and is fully optimized for absorption- and phase-contrast imaging, with a high photon flux between 8 keV and 100 keV, and a usable beam size of 70×15 mm2 at the sample. Absorption- and phase-contrast radiography and tomography in white or monochromatic beam with resolution below 1 micron and scan duration down to few seconds are possible. With its non-destructive approach, ID10 - BEATS can deliver virtual volume images that are used in a large range of scientific and technological applications.

ID11L - HESEB: The new soft X-ray Helmholtz SESAME beamline is OPEN to the user’s proposals.
The energy range of the beamline is 70-1800eV, with a resolving power (E/ΔE) of the order of 10000. The APPLE II undulator source allows to select between linear and circularly polarised beam, and the HESEB end station offers both Total Electron Yield (TEY) and fluorescence yield measurement capabilities, allowing to investigate the chemical milieu of numerous key elements, including C, N, O, S, and metals such as Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Co, Mg, and Al, as well as Si, the essential building block of information technology.

Additional instruments available

BM08 - XAFS/XRF: a new set-up allowing X-ray Excited Optical Luminescence (XEOL) is now available at the XAFS/XRF beamline. It can be combined with XAFS for studying the optical properties of X-ray scintillating materials, luminescent materials, photochroNewsmic materials and rare earth phosphors. The set-up can also accommodate a LASER source provided by the users, allowing to measure emission spectra under simultaneous LASER excitation.
