CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) has issued calls for applications for two of its capacity-building activities open to young scientists throughout the world.

The first, the Summer Student Programme, is CERN’s flagship project for students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in physics, computing, engineering or mathematics which annually brings together at CERN students from some 70 countries to participate in lectures, projects, and other educational activities.  Applications to take part in the 2021 programme are to reach CERN no later than 31 January 2021.

The second, the Beamline for Schools 2021, is a competition open to groups of high-school students from all around the world who, together with their respective mentors, propose a scientific experiment they would like to carry out at one of CERN’s beamlines. Because of the maintenance and upgrade of CERN’s accelerators, the winning experiments are currently being run at beamlines at DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron) in Hamburg (Germany). They will revert back to CERN once the long shutdown is over. The proposals for scientific experiments are evaluated by CERN’s scientific review committees. Applications to participate in the 2021 edition of the Schools are to reach CERN no later than 15 April 2021.

In both cases, applicants fulfilling the criteria for the activities are to be submit their applications to CERN online.
