Eight high-school teachers in physics from 4 Members of SESAME (Iran, Israel, Jordan and Palestinian Authority) were among the 54 teachers taking part in the CERN High School Teacher Programme 2014 that has held at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva (Switzerland) from 6 - 25 July 2014.
The 4th SESAME-LinkSCEEM Summer School took place at the Ibis Hotel - Amman in the period 15 - 17 June, 2014. The school was organized and funded in the framework of the EU LinkSCEEM-2 project by SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East), ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) and Software Carpentry.
On 29 December 2013, after an absence of two weeks during which they carried out their duties away from their normal place of work, the staff of SESAME returned to their offices and laboratories on the premises of SESAME where work leading to the start of commissioning of the booster is steadily being resumed.
Jordan was hit by unusually severe snowstorms that started on the evening of 11 December and continued until the night of 14 December, with intermittent rain and sleet. They intensified on the evening of 13 December/morning of 14 December with snow falling continuously from 7 p.m. on 13 December until approximately 8 a.m. the following morning.
In a special session on 25 November 2013 during its 23rd meeting held on the shores of the Dead Sea in Jordan, the SESAME Council paid homage to Gustav-Adolf (alias Gus) Voss who passed away on 5 October 2013.
The first IMAN1-LinkSCEEM User’s Meeting took place on Wednesday 12th of March, 2014 (9:00-14:00) at IMAN1 Center in Amman – King Hussein Business Park Building #25.
At its 23rd meeting in November 2013, the SESAME Council appointed Giorgio Paolucci Scientific Director of SESAME.
As part of the celebrations of the International Year of Crystallography 2014, the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) is pleased to support the SESAME project by providing free online access to IUCr Journals for the period 2014–2016, inclusive.
